Welcome to Corvettes Anonymous!!!!!

Hello everyone! You must be asking yourselves is this all about!!!!!!

Well, let me explain this new and exciting addition to the Valley. Corvette Valley has officially teamed up with a new and exciting charity organization called Corvettes Anonymous. It was created by Valley member MM-C5 and he approached us to see if we could help him get the word out.

I think MM-C5 is a stand up guy and I really like his idea so I said, why not??????? He is an outstanding member, is a SUPPORTING member, and a real down to earth type of guy. I met him and I figured if any forum would not help this man out is totally !!!!!! So here we have it. Corvettes Anoymous has arrived here at the Valley.

Here is some information about what this is all about in MM-C5's words:

As you can see from the logo, our concept is Corvettes Anonymous.

The idea and the philosophy for Corvettes Anonymous had been jelling for about a year, but the name didn’t come into being until the 2006 Corvettes In Venice show, sponsored by Venice Florida Corvettes.

After the dinner party, several Show Goers were discussing the cars they once owned, have now, wish they owned, and / or the ones that got away.

Since the group was represented by enthusiasts from various parts of Florida, they also were talking about how cool it would be to belong to a Nationwide Association ~ be traveling outside one’s home area and bump into someone who recognized the logo and also belonged.

Suddenly someone stood up and said,

“Hi, my name is Pedro and I have a problem!”

Corvettes Anonymous was born!

At the end of this invitation, I will provide a link to a photo site but first, here are a few of what we think will be the most common FAQs. If you have other questions, please add them to the list.

FAQs

1. Is Corvettes Anonymous a Club, or a Retail Vendor?

Neither. Corvettes Anonymous is an International Association dedicated to supporting anyone’s passion for Corvettes ~ whether they own one or not ~ and to assisting those less fortunate in life’s circumstances, through the donation of all profits from retail sales to selected charities.

Charities are selected on the basis of function and the percentage of money that actually gets to those in need. For example:

The Founding Chapter is currently supporting a local Interdenominational Food Bank, to which they deliver canned & boxed foods, personal hygiene items, and baby goods. More on that below.

Corvettes Anonymous supports Isaiah’s Inn, a Saint Petersburg FL based non-profit organization that “provides short-term needs for shelter, food and clothing of those less fortunate families who are motivated to become economically self-sufficient.” Approximately 80% of their families are single parent moms.

For their most recent year end, Isaiah’s Inn spent $277,673 of which only 3.5% was on administration or fund raising.

It is anticipated that as Corvettes Anonymous grows other chapters will follow this format.

2. Why should I be a member of Corvettes Anonymous when I already belong to a Club?

Corvettes Anonymous is an association that does not compete with other Corvette clubs or internet forums for membership. Most members are also members of one or more Corvette clubs in their local areas. Likewise, several members prefer to remain outside the regimen of structured clubs and cruise, show, or participate in various activities as they see fit.

As an Association, Corvettes Anonymous supports Corvette clubs by assisting to promote them and their activities and by direct participation in their events.

2. Is Corvettes Anonymous an online forum?

No. There are several excellent Corvette forum websites available. Corvettes Anonymous has no desire to enter that market or to compete with them. The Association will however make every effort to establish a rapport with their owners and to cross link Corvettes Anonymous with their sites.

3. What is the attraction to become a member of Corvettes Anonymous?

Whether it is membership in the National Model Railroad Association, National Association of Rocketry or being a member of an online Corvette Community, the Founders believe the answer lies in the fact that associations like these transcend membership in a local club.

Apparel and accessories readily available from these associations demonstrates that members are proud to be associated with something larger than local and want others to know about it.

Part of the attraction for Corvettes Anonymous is the possibility of going to a local event in or one outside one’s home area and bumping into someone from “God Knows Where” who is wearing a Corvettes Anonymous shirt, some other apparel, and / or has a decal on their car.

The Founders also believe the other primary attraction to Corvettes Anonymous is the charitable aspect of its Mission Statement.

It may be being philanthropic on behalf of others but Corvettes Anonymous believes there is a satisfaction in knowing that one’s contribution (whether through retail purchases, membership dues, donations, or physical effort) goes to a worthy cause.

To that end, Corvette Anonymous has the selected charities and will also support similar charities of other chapters throughout the country. As stated above, all profits from retail sales goes to the selected charities!

3. What format will your website follow?

At the moment, site design is still being formalized however it will be predominantly set up as a retail website with clear intent of driving sales to support the charitable aspects of the Association.

Since the full logo includes I HAVE A PROBLEM, we do want to find a way for members to tell a little about themselves but do so in such a way that the “telling” does not get into “thread” posting and the ensuing requirements for admins etc.

We envision a Calendar where members may post announcements of local events and link to the respective websites as well as to their local clubs or to their own websites or blogs. Obviously there will be an “About Us” area that tells the story and offers much of the information you are currently reading.

One of the most unique aspects we are working on is to allow members to have their own private email vis-à-vis kittykat@corvettesanonymous.com which is tied to their own existing email address. For example the email address for Dixie in Alabama might be dippy@aol.com When she gives someone her @corvettesanonymous.com address, mail hops through our server and arrives in her AOL mailbox. If she changes her ISP, she simply points his CA address to her new ISP email address.

As a member, she can also use the Corvettes Anonymous logo in her signature.

4. Does someone have to own a Corvette to be a member of Corvettes Anonymous?

No. They just simply will have an appreciation for Corvettes and share the passion and excitement.

5. Is there a requirement to be a member of Corvettes Anonymous in order to purchase retail products or to donate to the charities?

Once again, the answer is No. Anyone can purchase or donate as they wish.

6. Addictions of any kind are a serious matter. By your name, aren’t you taking that a bit lightly?

The Founders of Corvettes Anonymous are acutely aware of that issue. It is never our intent to take any debilitating addiction lightly or in jest.

We also believe that whether one’s hobby is collecting stamps, model railroading, or in this case Corvettes, there is a positive side that is the joy and camaraderie to be shared with others. It is that part of the “Problem” to which Corvettes Anonymous is are referring and wants to promote.

7. What is the Membership Fee?

Our research which includes other automobile associations shows membership fees ranging from just under $10 to in excess of $65. Our current thinking is $20. I would appreciate your input on this.

Membership for Charter Members is waived.

8. What is the next step and what is expected of me as a Charter Member?

The next step and the hope of inviting you to join us is, that you will order at least one shirt and /or cap that you will wear it to events in your area and assist us in rolling out Corvettes Anonymous.

To that end, we are working on being able to provide you with Corvette Anonymous business cards showing the logo, web address, and your Corvettes Anonymous email address (or mine if you would rather).

We have already found that people will ask about CA when they see the logo so the business card with the mission statement on the back should go a long way to help promote the association.

As mentioned, we are working with some of the Corvette forums. So as part of our official launch, we hope to start threads to announce the association.

If you have good things to say about the product you receive and believe in our concept, we would appreciate your participation in the threads. Of course if you are dissatisfied ~ ouch! ~ feel free to express that as well. Just please give me the opportunity to write the wrong before you post.

Charter Members like yourself and those who help us roll this out, will be able to purchase any product we offer at our cost + $3 + tax, + shipping, rounded up to the nearest $1. This discount is for as long as you are an active member. (The decal is just cost + $1, rounded up to an even $)

When we launch we will also offer a Charter Membership. The membership fee will not be waived and the pricing perks will be reduced.

That’s about it for the FAQs. Those of us involved with Corvettes Anonymous see this as somewhat of a “movement” so it is our desire to roll this out as widely and quickly as we can.

From the responses we are already receiving in the Tampa Bay area and South Florida, we are exceptionally encouraged. I hope you will join us.

I also hope this has answered your questions but if I haven’t gotten them all, or have generated others, please give me a call.

By the way, here is a link to view the current products. (The pricing you see is full retail.)

http://www.corvettesanonymous.com/

At the end of the product pictures are some pics of a Food Drive ~ Dine Out that the Founding Members of Corvettes Anonymous, in conjunction with SunCoast Corvette Association hosted last July.

Over 40 cars participated. (The Blazer is mine.)

Attendees were asked to bring a food donation for the food bank. As part of their 50/50 drawing, SunCoast Corvette Association announced that they would donate their half to the food bank. Upon hearing that, one of their members announced that what ever that dollar amount was, his company would match it. The drawing winner also gave 50% of his winnings to the cause.

With all the food donations, the 50/50 collection, and private cash donations, Corvettes Anonymous on behalf of SunCoast Corvette Association delivered almost 600 lbs of food to the Food Bank!

Corvettes Anonymous hopes this will continue to be an annual event with SCA, but also looks forward to staging similar events with other Corvette Clubs.
